I took this photo today, which is a Wednesday, and the place was packed. I’m not gonna lie – I love having the Peninsula to ourselves, but it’s also good for visitors to come and spend money and see this lovely place where we get to live. It took a few minutes to shoot this because I had to wait for people to clear out of the shot.

Officially, the lighthouse is called Mission Point Lighthouse, although I think of it as the Old Mission Lighthouse. There’s a ton of history involved with this lighthouse, including the Hessler Log Cabin, which my dad, Walter Johnson, was instrumental in moving to its current location.

There’s also a neat “lighthouse keeper” program, where anyone can apply to stay at the lighthouse. It’s super fun in January. You should definitely apply for that time slot.
