My daughter’s NMC Biology class took a field trip to Pyramid Point in Leelanau County today, so of course, I tagged along. I’d actually never been there before (I know – shame on me), and now I want to go back ASAP to shoot some more photos. Maybe when it gets a little cooler. Worked up a good sweat.

I hiked up the trail (which is somewhat steep – had to stop and rest a few times!) and took this photo at the lookout. My friend Kim Ciesla, who also lives on the Old Mission Peninsula (and is a rockstar at encouraging people to get outside and enjoy nature – follow her on Twitter), said it’s one of her favorite trails, and I can see why. The view from the lookout is absolutely stunning, looking out on Lake Michigan and the Manitou Islands. There was even a freighter going by out in the water.

The trail I hiked (much easier on the way back down) is 1.2 miles, but there’s another longer loop that goes through meadows. I’ll do that one next time. Maple, beech and birch trees line the trail, which is part of the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore.
