We love Red Ginger in downtown Traverse City. First, the name is just so fun. Red Ginger. Just makes you want to go check it out. Second, the food is some of the best in Traverse City. So eclectic, so different. And so delicious.
Last night, my daughter and I decided to go there for a late dinner. Just because. No special occasion, other than celebrating the day and life, in general. I ordered my favorite, the 8 Treasures Kale Salad, which is chock full of superfoods: kale, napa cabbage, edamame, carrot, Fuji apple, toasted quinoa, and tamari-sesame vinaigrette, for just $10. It’s not only my favorite salad at Red Ginger, it’s currently my favorite salad at any restaurant anywhere.

My daughter ordered my second favorite thing on the menu, the T.L. Tenderloin. Yes, it’s a little pricey at $30+, but it’s absolutely the best tenderloin on the planet: grilled all-natural, melt-in-your-mouth beef tenderloin, potato gratin with Stilton blue cheese & apple wood bacon, and shiitake-truffle pan sauce.
Red Ginger food is centered in the cultures of China, Vietnam, Japan and Thailand. No MSG, oil used sparingly, and supportive of local seasonal produce whenever possible.
But good food and aesthetics are nothing without good service, and the service at Red Ginger is, bar none, the best. Our server last night was Randy (noted “Randal N.” on our bill), and he was SO nice! He was happy to oblige when I asked if he’d be my “Photo of the Day.” Thank you, Randy! Keep being awesome!
