You probably clicked over to this post expecting to read about the Old Mission Women’s Club. But as they have requested that I NOT write about them on the Old Mission Gazette, this story has been removed.

I swear there was nothing nefarious in the story! Just me singing the praises of the good works the club does in the Old Mission and Traverse City community. My mom has been a member since 1960 and now I’m a member, as well, so it’s been a big part of our lives. However, I will respect their wishes.

  1. Jane, if I am correct in what I heard, you were just asked to get permission from members to post their picture in your blog. Not everyone wants their picture published. You could also double check with the executive board about posting information about speakers, etc. and as a journalist, you would be aware of this type of procedure.

  2. Hey Mary – Thanks for the note. Nancy Davy sent me a note that I could post my own experiences with the club, but there’s really no way for me to do that without mentioning speakers, events, etc. I can’t be in a position where I need to vet everything with the club before publishing, so I won’t post anything.

I think the club is missing out on some great publicity (that other groups pay the big bucks for), such as the upcoming cookie sale, good works in the community, etc., but I will respect their wishes. They should probably review social media policies at some point.

And yes, having been a journalist for 35 years – from newsrooms to digital media – I’m well aware of the protocols.

Hope all is well with you.
