Old Hymnals | Jane Boursaw Photo
Feel free to share this post...

We’ve been going through stuff in my mom’s house (she’s still there, mind you, but we’re slowly working through the massive amounts of photos, books, etc.), and much of it makes its way to our house, including these old hymnals. The green one, Tabernacle Hymns (note the duct tape), is the first hymnal I recall using at church.

There’s something comforting about old hymnals with familiar hymns, especially those bearing names like “Lindsay,” as you can see written at the top of “Favorites: Number 4.” It looks like Lucile Lindsey’s handwriting, but inside is written “Mary Lindsay,” and I’m not sure who that is. If you know, tell us in the comments below. (And I’m pretty sure it was Lindsey, not Lindsay.)

By the way, when I posted this on our church Facebook page, our organist at Old Mission Peninsula United Methodist Church replied that she had that exact “Favorites” hymnal, with her maiden name written on it, and brought it to church to show me and mom. So cool.
