Just in from the Old Mission Peninsula School PTO: There will be a Community Task Force meeting on Saturday, Dec. 19 at 8 a.m. (TOMORROW!) at the Peninsula Community Library, which is located in the OMPS building.
Following news of a possible closure of OMPS and the TCAPS Board Meeting earlier this week, this meeting tomorrow will create a Community Task Force to come up with viable solutions and the costs associated in order to save OMPS.
Old Mission Gazette is Reader Supported.

There will be breakout groups which will brainstorm creative solutions and people will be assigned to research the financial implications in order to present them to the TCAPS school board.
The entire Old Mission Peninsula community is invited.
(Note: This is not a TCAPS or PTO sponsored event.)
Brief Notes from the TCAPS Board Meeting Dec.14, 2015: Some 20 Old Mission community residents attended the meeting, and several people commented in favor of saving OMPS during the public comment time. Peninsula Community Library director Vicki Shurly asked Old Mission folks to stand as a show of support.
Much discussion took place, and Paul Soma noted that he will give his recommendation to the TCAPS board on Jan. 25, 2016. The board will then have until March to make a final decision regarding the school closings. Read more about which schools are in jeopardy here.
SUPPORT YOUR INDEPENDENT LOCAL NEWSPAPER: I started Old Mission Gazette in 2015 because I felt a calling to provide the Old Mission Peninsula community with local news. After decades of writing for newspapers and magazines like the New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Family Circle and Ladies' Home Journal, I really just wanted to write about my own community where I grew up on a cherry farm and raised my own family. So I started my own newspaper.
Because Old Mission Gazette is a "Reader Supported Newspaper" -- meaning it exists because of your financial support -- I hope you'll consider tossing a few bucks our way if I mention your event, your business, your organization or your news item, or if you simply love reading about what's happening on the OMP. In a time when local news is becoming a thing of the past, supporting an independent community newspaper is more important now than ever. Thank you so much for your support! -Jane Boursaw, Editor/Publisher, Old Mission Gazette
