If you need a little nudge to get into the holiday spirit, pop into the History Center (the old library building on Sixth Street) and check out the Festival of Trains. The annual event is organized by the Northern Michigan Railroad Club, and it’s so fun to see all the kids check out those trains.
Makes you feel like a kid again, and the detail in the trains, street scenes and landscapes is nothing short of amazing. And that blue box you see in the background of the photo? Kids can climb in there and sound the conductor’s train whistle. Too fun.
This year, the Festival of Trains runs from Dec. 12 – 31; Mon. through Sat., 10 to 6, and Sun., 12 to 4. They’ll also be open Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve, 10 to 2. Click here for more info.
