Ernest Hemingway in Downtown Traverse City? Yes, here he is peeking over Park Street. The portrait of Papa Hemingway, taken by Yousuf Karsh, was installed in December 2015 by Britten Studios.

The portrait is also shown in the collections of the Dennos Museum Center at Northwestern Michigan College. It was a gift from Estrellita Karsh, Yousuf’s wife, and was presented to the Dennos along with a collection of portraits by Yousuf Karsh in 2007.

This is just one piece in the “Traverse City Art Banner” project, created by former NMC Art Department Chair Paul Welch (who, I believe, lived on the Old Mission Peninsula for years; not sure if that’s still the case).

According to this story by UpNorthLive, he and a committee of artists and art supporters sought out empty walls on Downtown Traverse City buildings. They then asked the building owners to allow them to become outdoor galleries with reproduction banners of art by regional artists.
