I’m not exactly sure of the Coast Guard’s schedule for sweeping the bay, but it seems like we usually see them go by at least once or twice a day. Check out the website for the U.S. Coast Guard Air Station Traverse City, and also find them on Facebook here.
The Coast Guard holds a special place in my heart because my dad, Walter Johnson, was a Lt. Commander with the Air Station in Traverse City. I was talking with a Coast Guard officer recently and asked if he knew my dad. Of course, he said, and went on to tell me about their time together. That warmed my heart.

Read more about Dad’s Coast Guard service over here, where I write about having lunch with his Coast Guard Commander, Roger Vance.
Oh, and I love seeing the Coast Guard doing maneuvers out in East Bay, like in this Photo of the Day. That land you see in the background is on the other side of the bay, I’m guessing somewhere north of Acme.
Thank you to all the U.S. Coast Guard people who keep our bays safe.
such a great post
