If you haven’t stopped into The Red Dresser in Traverse City, get yourself there immediately, if not sooner. The year-round market located at 1253 W. South Airport Road in Traverse City features a beautiful collection of unique home and gift items created by local artisans. You’ll find vintage clothing, signs, hand-painted furniture, jewelry, and so much more from the 55+ vendors there – and at very reasonable prices.
My friend Marge Long is one of those vendors. We both grew up on the Old Mission Peninsula, have gone to the same church forever (Old Mission Peninsula United Methodist Church), and my husband Tim and I bought our property from Marge’s parents, Ed and Jo Brown.
Old Mission Gazette is Reader Supported.

When I stopped into The Red Dresser to take some photos, I met Erin Harrison-Zoulek, who also has Old Mission roots. In fact, we figured out that we’re related! Tim’s grandmother, Clarissa Boursaw – her sister Lucille married a Zoulek.
My other connection to The Red Dresser is jewelry designer Carol Murray, who founded and is a therapist with Lakeview Counseling. Carol is an amazing therapist who’s helped me through some challenging times over the past decade.
Take a look at a few photos from The Red Dresser, and for more info, call (231) 929-8150 or visit their website. Hours are 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Saturday.
SUPPORT YOUR INDEPENDENT LOCAL NEWSPAPER: I started Old Mission Gazette in 2015 because I felt a calling to provide the Old Mission Peninsula community with local news. After decades of writing for newspapers and magazines like the New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Family Circle and Ladies' Home Journal, I really just wanted to write about my own community where I grew up on a cherry farm and raised my own family. So I started my own newspaper.
Because Old Mission Gazette is a "Reader Supported Newspaper" -- meaning it exists because of your financial support -- I hope you'll consider tossing a few bucks our way if I mention your event, your business, your organization or your news item, or if you simply love reading about what's happening on the OMP. In a time when local news is becoming a thing of the past, supporting an independent community newspaper is more important now than ever. Thank you so much for your support! -Jane Boursaw, Editor/Publisher, Old Mission Gazette
