With all the beautiful woodlands surrounding the State Hospital area (aka The Village at Grand Traverse Commons), I shouldn’t be surprised to see deer around there. But I always am, because it’s basically right in the middle of town.

We were driving in that area (I love taking the cut-across from Meijer’s to Silver Lake Road to Front Street) and saw a deer with three fawns in a thicket right next to the State Building, 701 S. Elmwood Avenue.

Of course, I jumped out and grabbed this photo of one of the babies. (I’m guessing they’re not so welcome over at the community garden!)
