Apparently, I’m stuck on seagulls lately. Although I’m not completely sure if this is a seagull. Maybe a tern? From my Google search, those appear to be black and white, and this one is definitely mottled, which makes me think it’s a seagull. Anyway, if you know what it is, tell us in the comments below.
At any rate, I walked down to East Bay and the water was too choppy to kayak, so I just sat on the beach and messed around with my camera for a while. As with my Blue Angels pictures, I’m still learning how to photograph things in motion. My current strategy is to hold the camera in one spot and wait for something to fly through the shot.

While I was doing that, though, this seagull hovered right over me (it’s like he knew I wanted a photo), then dove into the water right in front of me, picked something up and flew away with it. Here’s a couple more shots from my seagull adventure. It looks like he might have dropped it and picked it up again mid-air. Either that, or he dropped it while he was flying and had to dive into the water to get it. It’s a mystery.

The seagull pictures are so fascinating. Unique shots, how exciting for you to get these.
I was so geeked when that one dove towards the water right in front of me! -jb
