My husband and I had a long debate about whether the new cell tower coming out from town was installed on a real tree or not. He was convinced it was. I took a closer look and, after trespassing through the Russell’s orchard for a closer look, finally convinced him it was NOT a real tree, but a fake tree made to LOOK like a real tree.

Then I came home and saw that Tony Andrus, our lifelong friend who’s worked at the phone company forever (previously Peninsula Telephone Co., then Ace Communications and now AcenTek) had posted on Facebook about their new cell tower “tree” and how fast it had grown.

So the next time you’re coming out of town on Center Road, when you go around that first curve by the Unitarian Church and head up Carpenter Hill, look to your right and you’ll see a brand new tree that grew very tall super fast. Looks like a tree, but it’s a cell tower.
