I love hanging out with my son, Will, for many reasons, and one of those is because it always turns into an adventure. While we were in Traverse City the other day, we ended up at 7 Monks Taproom on Union Street (I’d never been there). We both got a cheeseburger and fries, which came with a yummy dip. Here’s the official description from their menu:
Greasy Spoon Burger: 6 oz. beef patty, pickles, onions, Loma Farms greens, mustard relish aioli, American cheese with frites. $9.50

Everything was excellent. I especially love that it’s not a huge burger. So often, I’ll eat a burger somewhere and end up needing a nap. Not so with this one. Just the right size.

I’m not much of a beer drinker, but I tried some of Will’s beer (yes, he’s 21!). I’m not entirely positive, but think it was the “Clown Shoes Chocolate Sombrero” (pictured at the top of this post).
It, also, was very good (and what a name!), even for someone like me who isn’t a beer aficionado. Meanwhile, I had this. Who knew using REAL cane sugar would make such a difference? It really does. This is possibly the best Coke I’ve ever had. I don’t imbibe too much, but a few times a year, I just need a Coke.

Oh, and we also investigated the “Low Bar,” which sounds like something straight out of “Mad Men.” It’s underneath 7 Monks Taproom (you enter from the street, then take an elevator down), expect we couldn’t get the elevator to go down, so we took the stairs – and upon realizing that the door was locked, we then realized it was not yet open.
That’ll be an adventure for another time.
