I don’t know what these are – again, my fascination with what most consider “weeds,” but are in reality beautiful flowers – but they’re pretty, aren’t they? You see them all over the beaches right now.

Trevor Schook we have these, my mom knows what they are.
Tell us what they are!!
Beach pea. Definitely a wildflower and not a weed. Do a google search for Latin name Tephrosia virginiana (or possibly the Lathyrus genus).
check out Vetch flower…it’s always been a favorite on our beach access.
Oooh, good thought! Crown vetch is also in the pea family. (That foliage is a dead giveaway for any kind of pea.)
I appears to match the Crown Vetch Securigera varia
(L.) Lassen. Apparently not a happy thing for anything to eat. “Native to northern Africa, southwest Asia, and Mediterranean Europe, Securigera varia was introduced into the United States and Canada in the 1950s as ground cover in erosion control.” Link https://wizzley.com/crown-vetch-nightmare-securigera-varia/
Thank you, Mary!
You know what the difference between a flower and a wildflower and a weed? The person who’s looking at it!
You know, that is so true! I find myself trying to categorize plants into weeds, flowers, wildflowers, etc. But really, do we need to do that? No, we don’t! If it’s beautiful, it’s beautiful, no matter what it is.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen that flower before. Really beautiful.
