A special meeting of the Peninsula Township Board and TCAPS Board (Traverse City Area Public Schools) will take place on August 29 at 6 p.m. This is an open meeting for both groups, and the public is welcome.
The meeting will be held in the gym at Old Mission Peninsula School (OMPS), located at 2699 Island View Road on the Old Mission Peninsula.
Old Mission Gazette is Reader Supported.

At the meeting, a proposal will be presented regarding the possible purchase and funding of operations for OMPS in connection with an anonymous donation of $800,000 to keep OMPS open.
During the past year, the TCAPS Board has deliberated on whether to close schools because of budgetary issues. At the TCAPS board meeting on March 7, 2016, TCAPS voted to close two elementary schools, the International School at Bertha Vos and Interlochen Community School, after the 2016 school year.
OMPS, however, received a “stay of execution,” in order to further explore the $800,000 donation.
The August 29 meeting will be the first time that TCAPS and Peninsula Township will meet to discuss the sustainability of the donation.
SUPPORT YOUR INDEPENDENT LOCAL NEWSPAPER: I started Old Mission Gazette in 2015 because I felt a calling to provide the Old Mission Peninsula community with local news. After decades of writing for newspapers and magazines like the New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Family Circle and Ladies' Home Journal, I really just wanted to write about my own community where I grew up on a cherry farm and raised my own family. So I started my own newspaper.
Because Old Mission Gazette is a "Reader Supported Newspaper" -- meaning it exists because of your financial support -- I hope you'll consider tossing a few bucks our way if I mention your event, your business, your organization or your news item, or if you simply love reading about what's happening on the OMP. In a time when local news is becoming a thing of the past, supporting an independent community newspaper is more important now than ever. Thank you so much for your support! -Jane Boursaw, Editor/Publisher, Old Mission Gazette
