Every Wednesday, the good folks at Old Mission Peninsula United Methodist Church (my home church) take the “Cool Bus” over to Buchan’s Blueberry Hill for some yummy ice cream.
I finally had a chance to participate in this fun activity, and not only were the church folks there, but the iconic ice cream/farm stand was packed with people! In addition to home-made ice cream, they also offer fruit in season, including blueberries, apples and peaches, as well as jams, jellies and other farm goods.

If you’d like to ride along on the “Cool Bus,” meet at the church, 16426 Center Road, at 6:45 p.m. on Wednesday evenings. Or meet everyone at Buchan’s at 7 p.m.
Buchan’s Blueberry Hill is located at 1472 Nelson Road, off Peninsula Drive on the Old Mission Peninsula. Their phone number is (231) 223-4846. They’re open 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Lori and Ben Buchan run the farm, and Lori said blueberries are available for picking through October. For more info, check out their website here.
SUPPORT YOUR INDEPENDENT LOCAL NEWSPAPER: I started Old Mission Gazette in 2015 because I felt a calling to provide the Old Mission Peninsula community with local news. After decades of writing for newspapers and magazines like the New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Family Circle and Ladies' Home Journal, I really just wanted to write about my own community where I grew up on a cherry farm and raised my own family. So I started my own newspaper.
Because Old Mission Gazette is a "Reader Supported Newspaper" -- meaning it exists because of your financial support -- I hope you'll consider tossing a few bucks our way if I mention your event, your business, your organization or your news item, or if you simply love reading about what's happening on the OMP. In a time when local news is becoming a thing of the past, supporting an independent community newspaper is more important now than ever. Thank you so much for your support! -Jane Boursaw, Editor/Publisher, Old Mission Gazette
