Photo of the Day: Sept. 28, 2016 – Tugboat & Barge in Bowers Harbor

Feel free to share this post...

Did you go by Bowers Harbor today? There was a tugboat and barge out there, maybe taking shelter from the winds out in Lake Michigan…?

I saw the name “Leonard M” on it, so was able to track it with my new favorite boat tracker site. The Leonard M’s home port is Halifax, Nova Scotia. It departed from Mackinac Island earlier today and appears to be headed for Chicago.

On the barge is “McKeil Marine” and “Huron Spirit” – you can check out more about this company and this particular vessel here.

(h/t my sis-in-law Jane Boursaw for the tip!)

    • The boat tracker site didn’t say what they were doing there, but that they were on their way from Mackinac to Chicago. I’m wondering if the waves were pretty big on Lake Michigan. I know they were crashing into shore at the Lighthouse! – jb

      • They left about an hour ago. It looked like the barge was riding low in the water, an indication that it was carrying a heavy load. Bowers Harbor was a calm harbor for 27 hours.
