Old Mission Peninsula resident Kristen Abner posted a note on the OMP NextDoor group that she’s training to run the Detroit Free Press Marathon to support Team in Training (TNT), an athletic support group of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS). The marathon takes place on Oct. 16, 2016, and Abner is in the midst of fundraising.
“This will be my sixth marathon in support of TNT, and over the years it has become a huge passion of mine,” says Abner. “I run these marathons to help spread awareness and knowledge, and also help with research funds, and patient and family aid.”
Old Mission Gazette is Reader Supported.

All funds raised will support the Michigan chapter of the LLS, and you can give quickly and securely through her webpage. You can also read about Abner’s history with TNT and about the heroes to whom she dedicates this run (each mile is run in honor and support of a specific person).
“Any gift is appreciated, and every little bit adds up!” says Abner. “If 100 people give $10, we would have $1000. If 100 people gave $25, we would have $2500!! I can’t do this without you! When you visit my page you will see donations of all levels, and every one one of them has added up to one substantial amount. Please consider giving any amount you can! Thank you in advance for your support!”

A NOTE FROM JANE: I started Old Mission Gazette in 2015 because I felt a calling to provide the Old Mission Peninsula community with local news. After decades of writing for newspapers like the New York Times and Los Angeles Times, and magazines like Family Circle and Ladies' Home Journal, I really just wanted to write about my own community where I grew up on a cherry farm and raised my own family. So of course, I started my own newspaper. Because the Gazette is mainly reader-supported, I hope you'll consider tossing a few bucks my way if I mention your event, your business, your organization or your news item, or if you simply love reading about what's happening on the Old Mission Peninsula. Check out the donation page here. Thank you so much for your support. -jb
