My beloved friend and yoga teacher Sally Van Vleck, who owns the Neahtawanta Inn, lost her daughter, Hallie Olson Wastell, to cancer yesterday. On Sept. 27, Hallie posted this on Facebook:
“So after battling this disease for almost 4 years, I am now on hospice. The emotion and distress we are feeling is overwhelming. Probably the hardest of these feelings, for me, is not being able to go home to spend my last days by the water … I love you all so much and thank you all for each part you have played, and continue to play in my life! (Like my amazing family!)”

Yesterday, Hallie’s sister, Jessica, posted this:
“Today at 1:18pm we watched our precious Hallie Olson Wastell take her last breath … she was surrounded by her family and her loyal dog Hans. Her vibrant spirit lives on. She is now cancer free. Our hearts will never be the same again. Please know we feel all of your love and support. As we face this heartache, we know you are grieving with us.”
Today’s Photo of the Day – of the dock and water at Neahtawanta Inn this summer – is in honor of Hallie. We grieve with you, Sally and Jessica, and your family in the loss of one of our Old Mission Peninsula sisters. Much love to your whole family.

I am so sorry to hear this. My heart goes out to Sally, Jim and all the family. Thank you, Jane, for letting us know.
Thanks for the note, Linda. I know Sally and her family can feel our love and support.
We yogis love our Sally and share in her grief.
I know she feels the love… -jb
What a beautiful tribute that photo makes.
Praying for all of the family and friends of Hallie.
So sad.
Thanks Jane Louise Boursaw. Needed this post❤️
That’s just lovely, Jane. I did not know Hallie but seeing many mutual friends postings makes my heart ache, too.
I am sending thoughts and prayers to the family.
Beautiful.
