Here’s a photo of the barn where I spent many, many hours when I was a kid. It’s our family’s “home place,” just north of Mapleton, where my horse Copper lived, along with my brother Dean’s horse Skipper and assorted other animals. And before that, my dad’s cows and horses, and before that, his dad’s cows and horses.

I’m so glad to know there are horses in the barn now, and that their humans take such good care of the barn. Thanks to Lori Gilbert and everyone else who boards their horses in this special barn. I know my dad would love it.

The farm used to be called Crescent Hill Fruit Farms, but has since morphed into Johnson Farms. There was a home across the road which burned down in 1964. I never lived there (our new house in Old Mission was built the year I was born – 1960), but my sister Carol and brothers Dean and Ward spent the beginnings of their childhood there.
