Happy New Year! After church today, I tooled around the neighborhood and took a few photos. Here’s some snowy cheer from Haserot Beach, where my friends and I spent many, many hours every summer.
Who remembers hanging out at the beach when Katy King was the lifeguard there? I was part of the very large and extended King family for a few years, and it was a whole lot of fun.

Below is a blurry photo of me and Katy (not sure who the photographer was). I’m going to say this was the summer of 1979, at what we called “Far Out 3,” one of the “Far Out Farms” blocks behind Duane Kroupa’s house, now owned by Dave and Deb (Cosgrove) Ott, on Kroupa Road. I should clarify that and say that Frank Mavety, who ran Far Out Farms, owned the house at the time. I believe he bought it from Duane.

Haserot Beach is pretty quiet right now, but it’ll get busy again during the warmer months. Here’s a throwback photo of Katy King, when she was the lifeguard there, and Tim Perszyk, again probably the summer of 1979. I’m guessing they were playing backgammon. We played a lot of backgammon, not only on the beach, but everywhere.

Katy taught me how to swim at that beach! I really miss living there.
