UPDATE FEB. 2, 2017: Erin Jones Fuller, over on OMG’s Facebook page, identified this as a flying squirrel. When I posted the photo, I noticed the white “wings” on the bottom side of his little body, but didn’t think to name him as a flying squirrel, even though I’ve seen his kin at the feeder previously (and asked Facebook and, sure enough, flying squirrel). Today’s Photo of the Day is courtesy of this snowy little mouse on a cold winter’s night. Super cute, isn’t he? As long as he stays at the bottom of the bird feeders and doesn’t venture inside the house. It looks like he has a little hovel underneath that piece of wood next to him.
