Books at the Boathouse will take place on Tuesday, March 14, 6 p.m. – 9 p.m., at The Boathouse Restaurant at 14039 Peninsula Drive on the Old Mission Peninsula.

The event, which is a fundraiser for Peninsula Community Library’s new building, will be a Cèilidh – a traditional Irish social gathering – with appetizers, local wines, dinner, dessert and Irish music on the concertina and fiddle provided by Jane Arney and Hillar Bergman.

The celebration includes the kickoff of a silent auction, with items ranging from an original seat from Wrigley Stadium to a stay at Mission Point Lighthouse to a basket of Old Mission goodies, including some from Old Mission Gazette’s online store.

Tickets are $150 per person with funds going to Peninsula Community Library’s Building Fund. $100 of the ticket price is tax deductible.

Note that silent auction items will be available for bidding at the library for one week AFTER the Boathouse event, ending with a Mocktail Party at the library on March 21, sponsored by the Friends of Peninsula Community Library.

“Many thanks to Doug Kosch of The Boathouse Restaurant, our musicians, silent auction donors and our great Friends group,” says library board member Heatherlyn Johnson Reamer, adding, “It’s going to be a fun evening!”

Tickets are available at Peninsula Community Library, located in the Old Mission Peninsula School at 2699 Island View Road on the Old Mission Peninsula. For more information, call the library, (231) 223-7700.

A NOTE FROM JANE: I started Old Mission Gazette in 2015 because I felt a calling to provide the Old Mission Peninsula community with local news. After decades of writing for newspapers like the New York Times and Los Angeles Times, and magazines like Family Circle and Ladies' Home Journal, I really just wanted to write about my own community where I grew up on a cherry farm and raised my own family. So of course, I started my own newspaper. Because the Gazette is mainly reader-supported, I hope you'll consider tossing a few bucks my way if I mention your event, your business, your organization or your news item, or if you simply love reading about what's happening on the Old Mission Peninsula. Check out the donation page here. Thank you so much for your support. -jb
