Today’s Photo of the Day comes to us from my friend Rick Laney, who lives in the village of Old Mission. Rick’s photo of this beautiful Christmas tree with the Old Mission General Store in the background is something straight out of artist Thomas Kinkade’s studio. So peaceful.
Having grown up near the General Store (Rick’s friend Vinnie Johnson actually bought our family parcel next to the store – on the right in the photo), it will always hold a special place in my heart. Bob DeVol was the owner when I was a kid, and all the kids in the neighborhood were especially fond of Bob’s “penny candy box” under the counter at the store.

Old Mission General Store was also my son Will’s first job out of high school, working for current owners Jim and Marcy Richards.
Thank you for the photo, Rick! Happy New Year to you!
