At tonight’s regular meeting of the Peninsula Township Planning Commission, the commission will consider adopting the “Findings of Fact” in connection with a new building for the Peninsula Community Library, to be built on 5.25 acres on the corner of Center Road and Island View Road.
Following a public hearing at the Jan. 22 Planning Commission meeting, the commission voted unanimously to direct the Township Planner to write up the “Findings of Fact” to be reviewed at tonight’s meeting.

If approved, the commission will likely also approve the Special Use Permit for construction of the new library. The Special Use Permit will then move to the Township Board level, where another public hearing will be scheduled.
Also on the agenda for tonight’s meeting:
- Year End Report – Discussion
- Floodplain and wetlands public hearing
- Escrow discussion – set public hearing
- Continued discussion of Junk Ordinance and Short Term Rentals (Isaiah Wunsch)
The meeting will be held tonight at 7 p.m. at the Peninsula Township Hall, 13235 Center Road on the Old Mission Peninsula.
A NOTE FROM JANE: I started Old Mission Gazette in 2015 because I felt a calling to provide the Old Mission Peninsula community with local news. After decades of writing for newspapers and magazines like the New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Family Circle and Ladies' Home Journal, I really just wanted to write about my own community where I grew up on a cherry farm and raised my own family. So I started my own newspaper. Because the Gazette is mainly reader-supported, I hope you'll consider tossing a few bucks my way if I mention your event, your business, your organization or your news item, or if you simply love reading about what's happening on the OMP.
