The Peninsula Township Board has scheduled a special meeting at 7:30 a.m. tomorrow, April 4, at the Peninsula Township Hall, 13235 Center Road on the Old Mission Peninsula. The only item on the agenda is: “Consider Approval of Special Use Permit #128 Peninsula Community Library.”
As we reported last week, the Board tabled the special use permit for Peninsula Community Library’s building project, in order to clarify and modify some of the language in the Findings of Fact.

Library representatives are asking anyone who is able to attend the meeting and show their support for the new library.
“We need your support to encourage the Peninsula Township Board to give their final approval of the Library’s application for a Special Use Permit (SUP) to build the new library,” wrote Library Director Vicki Shurly in an email today. “We know it’s early and last minute, but the matter was unexpectedly tabled at the regular Board meeting last Tuesday.”
Since that meeting, notes Vicki, Township Supervisor Rob Manigold has worked closely with herself, as well as library board members, volunteers, library architects and engineers to ensure that all perceived hurdles from last Tuesday’s meeting are cleared for approval.

SUPPORT YOUR INDEPENDENT LOCAL NEWSPAPER: I started Old Mission Gazette in 2015 because I felt a calling to provide the Old Mission Peninsula community with local news. After decades of writing for newspapers and magazines like the New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Family Circle and Ladies' Home Journal, I really just wanted to write about my own community where I grew up on a cherry farm and raised my own family. So I started my own newspaper.
Because Old Mission Gazette is a "Reader Supported Newspaper" -- meaning it exists because of your financial support -- I hope you'll consider tossing a few bucks our way if I mention your event, your business, your organization or your news item, or if you simply love reading about what's happening on the OMP. In a time when local news is becoming a thing of the past, supporting an independent community newspaper is more important now than ever. Thank you so much for your support! -Jane Boursaw, Editor/Publisher, Old Mission Gazette
