Consumers Energy is currently upgrading the pole line along Center Road, starting at “the forks” (corner of Center Road and Peninsula Drive), moving north through the neighborhoods and continuing north of McKinley Road for about one mile.
The work, taking place to help avoid long-term outages, includes rebuilding the high-voltage electric distribution line approximately 20 feet from the existing line, as staked. Once the new line is built and energized, the old line will be removed.

Preliminary work, which began around Feb. 26, included tree trimming and removal. All trees and brush within 40 feet of the new line location have been or will be cut, as well as any hazardous trees outside of the staked area and marked with blue paint. Trees marked with a blue dot have been trimmed, while trees and brush marked with a blue X have been removed in accordance with the easements. Customers living along the easement were mailed a letter in early February describing the project.
Construction is expected to be completed by the fall of 2018. If you have any questions, feel free to contact Doug DeYoung, Community Affairs Manager for Consumers Energy, (231) 929-6234 or (231) 649-4096.
