As the Old Mission Peninsula continues to mourn the loss of agricultural icon Josh Wunsch, who recently passed away after a massive stroke, there’s now a date for a memorial gathering.
A celebration of Josh’s life will take place on Saturday, May 19, 1 p.m. at the Wunsch farm on the Old Mission Peninsula. Take Peninsula Drive north past Kroupa Road. Turn left on Phelps Road, then right on Wunsch Road. Follow the road back to the Wunsch farmhouse, and that’s where the gathering will be held.

I talked with Josh’s wife Barb last week, and she said they really wanted to wait until the summer farm crew arrived before having the memorial service.
Barb also said that while there will be tents set up with tables and chairs, it might be a good idea for folks to bring lawn chairs in case they’re needed. I’ll also add that carpooling is probably a good idea, too.
A NOTE FROM JANE: I started Old Mission Gazette in 2015 because I felt a calling to provide the Old Mission Peninsula community with local news. After decades of writing for newspapers like the New York Times and Los Angeles Times, and magazines like Family Circle and Ladies' Home Journal, I really just wanted to write about my own community where I grew up on a cherry farm and raised my own family. So of course, I started my own newspaper. Because the Gazette is mainly reader-supported, I hope you'll consider tossing a few bucks my way if I mention your event, your business, your organization or your news item, or if you simply love reading about what's happening on the Old Mission Peninsula.
