With fundraising for their new building approaching $2 million of the $2.5 million needed, the Peninsula Community Library (PCL) has planned a “Two Million Dollar Party” for Sunday, May 27, 5 to 8 p.m.
Like the “One Million Dollar Party” held last year, the event will take place on the site of the new building, at the corner of Center Road and Island View Road on the Old Mission Peninsula.
Old Mission Gazette is Reader Supported.

Everyone is invited, but please RSVP by emailing Nancy Davy, President of Friends of PCL, [email protected] or by calling the library, (231) 223-7700.
“Help us make that final push to raise the last half million dollars so we can break ground this fall,” says Davy. With the Special Use Permit from Peninsula Township in hand, PCL is preparing building documents that should be ready to go out for bids in June.
Tom’s Food Markets, a major donor to the new library, will provide a picnic of chicken, potato salad, slaw and cake, with hot dogs and chips for the kids. Bring a beverage of your choice and lawn chairs or blankets. Some seating will be available under the tent. Music will be provided by the Happy Time Banjos.
At the event, you’ll have the opportunity to view the most recent plans and “tour” the building site. Consider applying for a personalized brick, and be sure and purchase raffle tickets for a vintage hand-knitted bedspread.
SUPPORT YOUR INDEPENDENT LOCAL NEWSPAPER: I started Old Mission Gazette in 2015 because I felt a calling to provide the Old Mission Peninsula community with local news. After decades of writing for newspapers and magazines like the New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Family Circle and Ladies' Home Journal, I really just wanted to write about my own community where I grew up on a cherry farm and raised my own family. So I started my own newspaper.
Because Old Mission Gazette is a "Reader Supported Newspaper" -- meaning it exists because of your financial support -- I hope you'll consider tossing a few bucks our way if I mention your event, your business, your organization or your news item, or if you simply love reading about what's happening on the OMP. In a time when local news is becoming a thing of the past, supporting an independent community newspaper is more important now than ever. Thank you so much for your support! -Jane Boursaw, Editor/Publisher, Old Mission Gazette
