For those of you asking if I ever have OMP items on hand from our online store, Old Mission Peninsula Store, here’s your chance! I DO happen to have quite a few things on hand, and I’ll be selling them at the Local Artist’s Fair this weekend.
The art fair will take place this Saturday, July 21, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., at Old Mission Peninsula School. I will be selling our OMP-inspired T-shirts, hats, photo prints (8×10 and 12×18), matted photos (8×10), greeting cards, coffee mugs, vinyl car stickers and more.
Old Mission Gazette is Reader Supported.

I’ll also have items from our unique collections – M37, OMP History, Old Mission Panthers, Peninsula Redeyes, OMPeace and more.
Gazette Photos for Sale
So all those photos you see on Old Mission Gazette? I’ll have a good selection for sale at the art fair, both matted and non-matted. I’ll also have a stack of “Etchings: The Traverse City Coloring Book for Grown-Ups” for sale, created by my friend Kris Hains.
If you want to check prices ahead of time, you can click through to Old Mission Peninsula Store. All the prices listed there will be the prices at the art fair.
Other artists at the art fair will be offering wearable art, paintings, multiple kinds of jewelry, natural skincare products, pottery, recycled materials fish, original women’s clothing, hand-printed home goods, pressed flower stationary and bookmarks, quilts, baby gifts, and much more.
Start Christmas Shopping
This Local Artist’s Fair is a great way to get a head start on your Christmas shopping, while buying local at the same time. And I heard a rumor that it might be raining on Saturday, so if you have guests, this is a fun way for them to buy unique items and meet the locals at the same time.
There will also be two food trucks at the school – Norma’s Tamale’s and McChesney’s Gourmet Burgers. A coffee stand will be open all day, and Buchan’s ice cream will be served beginning at 11 a.m.
Summer Book Sale
The art fair is also a fundraiser for Peninsula Community Library, which will be holding their Annual Summer Book Sale at the same time. The books are organized to make browsing a joy, and there’s something for every age and interest, all at amazing prices. And Nancy Davy, president of Friends of Peninsula Community Library, says they have a huge selection of books – more than any previous year.
The book sale begins today, July 19 (7 a.m. – 8 p.m.), and will run through August 8. Hours include Monday and Thursday, 9 a.m. – 8 p.m., and Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, 9 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.
Old Mission Peninsula School is located at 2699 Island View Road on the Old Mission Peninsula. If you have any questions, feel free to call the library, (231) 223-7700.
See you there! Be sure to come by my space and say hi!

SUPPORT YOUR INDEPENDENT LOCAL NEWSPAPER: I started Old Mission Gazette in 2015 because I felt a calling to provide the Old Mission Peninsula community with local news. After decades of writing for newspapers and magazines like the New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Family Circle and Ladies' Home Journal, I really just wanted to write about my own community where I grew up on a cherry farm and raised my own family. So I started my own newspaper.
Because Old Mission Gazette is a "Reader Supported Newspaper" -- meaning it exists because of your financial support -- I hope you'll consider tossing a few bucks our way if I mention your event, your business, your organization or your news item, or if you simply love reading about what's happening on the OMP. In a time when local news is becoming a thing of the past, supporting an independent community newspaper is more important now than ever. Thank you so much for your support! -Jane Boursaw, Editor/Publisher, Old Mission Gazette
