Old Mission Peninsula School is seeking community volunteers to help with a couple of upcoming events:
CARDBOARD SLED RACE: The 2019 OMPS Cardboard Sled Race is scheduled for Friday, Feb. 1, at 3:15 p.m. Kids will race their handmade cardboard and duct tape sleds down the infamous OMPS Hill (helmets and a signed waiver are required to race). A potluck will follow inside. If your last name starts with A-M, bring a dessert; N-Z bring a savory dish. To help out at the sled race, email Debra Hartley, [email protected].
Old Mission Gazette is Reader Supported.

WINTER CARNIVAL: Their 2nd Annual Winter Carnival will be held on Friday, Feb. 22, 5:30 p.m. – 8 p.m., and they need you! Grab your friends, grandparents, neighbors, middle and high schoolers to take on a volunteer shift.
Know of a community group (honor society, student council, 4-H, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, etc,) that needs volunteer hours? Let the school know, and they’ll sign them up. Volunteers will also receive four game tickets per shift. The carnival will feature games, a cake walk, balloon animals, cotton candy, snow cones, food and lots of FUN! Sign up here to help out at the carnival.
Feel free to call the school with any questions, (231) 252-0225.
A NOTE FROM JANE: I started Old Mission Gazette in 2015 because I felt a calling to provide the Old Mission Peninsula community with local news. After decades of writing for newspapers and magazines like the New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Family Circle and Ladies' Home Journal, I really just wanted to write about my own community where I grew up on a cherry farm and raised my own family. So I started my own newspaper. Because the Gazette is mainly reader-supported, I hope you'll consider tossing a few bucks my way if I mention your event, your business, your organization or your news item, or if you simply love reading about what's happening on the OMP. Check out the donation page here. Thank you so much for your support. -jb
