Today’s Photo of the Day is courtesy of this sweet Snowy Owl spotted on Center Road just north of the Old Mission Tavern (which, by the way, is closed until April 15).
Some of my photographer pals have been posting owl photos here and there, but this is my first sighting of the season. And it’s always such a thrill. They’re so other-worldly looking.

I’m not one of those photographers who keeps their location a closely-guarded secret, because I think everyone deserves to see these Snowy Owls around the Old Mission Peninsula. But I would just encourage you to be respectful if you’re taking photos of these lovely creatures.
I’ve found that they’re pretty patient if you’re careful about not getting too close (a long telephoto lens is an asset here). But if there’s too much commotion, they’ll spread their big wings and fly off.
We need your support...
At a time when newspapers across the country are dying in droves, small community newspapers like Old Mission Gazette are the wave of the future. Owners Tim and Jane Boursaw are devoted to the Old Mission Peninsula community, and our editorial independence means we set our own agenda and voice our own opinions. But we need your ongoing support to keep delivering Old Mission Peninsula news, history, photos and more.
