Here’s a round-up of recent news and photos from around the Old Mission Peninsula. As always, there’s a lot going on in our community.

Peninsula Community Library recently celebrated reaching their fundraising goal of $2.5 Million to build the new library, currently under construction at the corner of Center Road and Island View Road. They are still fundraising for things like furniture, the Children’s Garden and more. Click here to learn how you can be part of the new library.

OMPS Kids Clean Up the Lighthouse. The kids from Old Mission Peninsula School recently spent a morning helping to clean up around Mission Point Lighthouse. The activity was part of Better World Day, an initiative of EL Education to encourage kids to make the world a safer, stronger, and better place, both locally and globally.

The Old Mission Women’s Club recently gathered for their spring luncheon at the Traverse City Golf and Country Club. A few days beforehand, the hostess committee met in Linda and Dave Sanger’s garage to plant beautiful pansies for the luncheon centerpieces.

If you’ve noticed new trees on Center Road heading out towards the Lighthouse, you can thank the Old Mission Peninsula Historical Society, who quietly plants trees along our roadsides from year to year. Here are a few recently-planted trees near the corner of Center Road and Swaney Road.

A NOTE FROM JANE: I started Old Mission Gazette in 2015 because I felt a calling to provide the Old Mission Peninsula community with local news. After decades of writing for newspapers and magazines like the New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Family Circle and Ladies' Home Journal, I really just wanted to write about my own community where I grew up on a cherry farm and raised my own family. So I started my own newspaper. Because the Gazette is mainly reader-supported, I hope you'll consider tossing a few bucks my way if I mention your event, your business, your organization or your news item, or if you simply love reading about what's happening on the OMP. Check out the donation page here. Thank you so much for your support. -jb
