Old Mission Women’s Club Flowers. The next time you’re at the Peninsula Township offices, check out the beautiful flower containers, assembled by the Old Mission Women’s Club on Friday, May 23.

Library Fundraiser. Peninsula Community Library‘s “Wine Down with Chocolate and Silent Auction” fundraiser at St. Joseph Catholic Church on May 18, 2019 was a big success! Check out a few photos of the fun event.

Do-Gooder Kids. The JAM and ROCK youth groups at Old Mission Peninsula United Methodist Church worked on their final mission project of the school year, assembling “Dignity Kits” to be distributed by UMCOR (United Methodist Committee on Relief) in areas experiencing natural disasters. The red noses are in honor of Red Nose Day, which supports children’s charities worldwide.

Eighth Street Work. You might have noticed that they’re doing just a little work on Eighth Street in Traverse City this summer. Here’s some photographic evidence.

Pretty Flowers. Old Mission Flowers is now open for the season! Owner Ginny Dohm Coulter currently has plenty of tulips of every shape, size and color, as well as daffodils and other bulb flowers. Stop by and pick a few at the corner of Center Road and Ladd Road.

Cherry Blossoms. Yep, cherry blossoms are blooming! Sweet cherry blossoms are on the way out, but tart cherry blossoms are currently in full bloom. Take a drive around the neighborhood and bask in their glory. Here are a few tarts at my family’s farm – Johnson Farms, just north of Mapleton. The bees would love it if the temps were just a wee bit warmer.

SUPPORT YOUR INDEPENDENT LOCAL NEWSPAPER: I started Old Mission Gazette in 2015 because I felt a calling to provide the Old Mission Peninsula community with local news. After decades of writing for newspapers and magazines like the New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Family Circle and Ladies' Home Journal, I really just wanted to write about my own community where I grew up on a cherry farm and raised my own family. So I started my own newspaper.
Because Old Mission Gazette is a "Reader Supported Newspaper" -- meaning it exists because of your financial support -- I hope you'll consider tossing a few bucks our way if I mention your event, your business, your organization or your news item, or if you simply love reading about what's happening on the OMP. In a time when local news is becoming a thing of the past, supporting an independent community newspaper is more important now than ever. Thank you so much for your support! -Jane Boursaw, Editor/Publisher, Old Mission Gazette
