Cherry harvest has pretty much wrapped up for the season on the Old Mission Peninsula, although you can still find cherries at the roadside stands along OMP roads.
Upcoming crops include apples, pumpkins, and other fall crops, including grapes, which snagged our top spot in today’s Photo of the Day.

I believe these are Kroupa grapes, located next to my brother Ward Johnson’s farm on Center Road. They’re on a dirt road heading up to another parcel planted in cherries owned by Johnson Farms that we call “The Caldwell Place,” because Lee Caldwell once owned the house and farm there. It’s next to “The Hogsback.”
I’ve got a photo around here somewhere of the original Caldwell house (there’s still a house there, but it went through a major restoration from the original building), but can’t lay my hands on it at the moment. Will keep looking. Til then, here’s another view of the grapes up there.
