Now that the brand new Peninsula Community Library is open for business on the corner of Center Road and Island View Road – see photos here and here – what better way to celebrate than with the annual Book Sale hosted by the Friends of Peninsula Community Library?

The Community Room at the library is filled with books – all kinds of books, both recently published and not so recently published – and the Friends team is busy setting things up.

The book sale will begin on Wednesday, Sept. 18, and continue through Saturday, Sept. 28.

Book Sale Hours (same as the library hours):

  • Monday: 9 a.m. – 8 p.m.
  • Tuesday: 9 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.
  • Wednesday: 9 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.
  • Thursday: 9 a.m. – 8 p.m.
  • Friday: 9 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.
  • Saturday: 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.

On Sept. 25, they will start offering books for $5/bag, and on the last day, books will be $1/bag.

Also, in recent years, the Book Sale has coincided with the Old Mission Art Fair. However, with everything surrounding the construction and move to the new library, it was decided not to have the Art Sale this year. Look for it to return next year.

If you have any questions, feel free to call the library at (231) 223-7700.

SUPPORT YOUR INDEPENDENT LOCAL NEWSPAPER: I started Old Mission Gazette in 2015 because I felt a calling to provide the Old Mission Peninsula community with local news. After decades of writing for newspapers and magazines like the New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Family Circle and Ladies' Home Journal, I really just wanted to write about my own community where I grew up on a cherry farm and raised my own family. So I started my own newspaper.

Because Old Mission Gazette is a "Reader Supported Newspaper" -- meaning it exists because of your financial support -- I hope you'll consider tossing a few bucks our way if I mention your event, your business, your organization or your news item, or if you simply love reading about what's happening on the OMP. In a time when local news is becoming a thing of the past, supporting an independent community newspaper is more important now than ever. Thank you so much for your support! -Jane Boursaw, Editor/Publisher, Old Mission Gazette
