Fierce winds and waves on East and West Bay continue to pummel the Old Mission Peninsula this week, and now we can add the Haserot Beach dock/boat launch to the list of casualties.
Shortly after Tim and I shot a few photos this morning of the dock enduring ocean-like waves at Haserot Beach, I was at the Township Board meeting when Lisa LaBonte texted me that the dock had been destroyed. So off I went to shoot a few more photos.

Here’s the “before”…
And the “after”…
The Haserot Beach dock/boat launch has been the subject of much discussion this year. The Peninsula Township Board scrapped plans to rebuild the boat launch at Haserot Beach, opting instead to re-open discussion about moving the boat launch to nearby Kelley Park.
In September, they voted unanimously to pursue moving the boat launch to Kelley Park. Read more here.

SUPPORT YOUR INDEPENDENT LOCAL NEWSPAPER: I started Old Mission Gazette in 2015 because I felt a calling to provide the Old Mission Peninsula community with local news. After decades of writing for newspapers and magazines like the New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Family Circle and Ladies' Home Journal, I really just wanted to write about my own community where I grew up on a cherry farm and raised my own family. So I started my own newspaper.
Because Old Mission Gazette is a "Reader Supported Newspaper" -- meaning it exists because of your financial support -- I hope you'll consider tossing a few bucks our way if I mention your event, your business, your organization or your news item, or if you simply love reading about what's happening on the OMP. In a time when local news is becoming a thing of the past, supporting an independent community newspaper is more important now than ever. Thank you so much for your support! -Jane Boursaw, Editor/Publisher, Old Mission Gazette

I don’t understand why that dock hadn’t already been pulled. What a waste of our money
That dock has been in bad shape for years. Mother Nature did us a favor.
Did you see the dock this year? It appeared to be new and improved.
