It’s about that time, people. Time for the Old Mission Women’s Club annual Christmas Cookie Sale! It’s the sale we wait all year for, the one that draws people from near and far, so get there early to make sure you don’t miss out.

This year, the cookie sale will be held on Saturday, Dec. 14, 2019, at the Peninsula Township Hall, 13235 Center Road on the Old Mission Peninsula, from 8 a.m. until they sell out. Which, based on previous years, could happen any time after 10:30 or 11 a.m.

Old Mission Gazette is Reader Supported.

If you’ve been to previous cookie sales hosted by the Old Mission Women’s Club, you know that it’s a treasure trove of every kind of delicious cookie, along with assorted breads, candies and other treats. The cookies sell for $8/lb., and the club supplies the boxes, as well.

They accept cash, checks and – new this year – they’ll also be accepting major credit cards.

At the sale, you can also purchase tickets for a one-of-a-kind raffle. The prize is a holiday gift box filled with five dozen – yes, FIVE DOZEN – beautifully-decorated cookies and truffles made by Janis Haine.

Raffle tickets are $5 for one ticket or $20 for five tickets. And remember, all the proceeds from both the raffle and cookie sale go to the club’s charitable projects right here in our community. (Full disclosure: I’m a member and they do a LOT of good works in the community. The club began in 1931 and is still going strong.)

And if you’re not familiar with Janis’ amazing kitchen skills, you are in for a treat. She’s a professional caterer, and the cookies and truffles for the raffle are … well, there’s just no words to describe them, but let’s go with awesome and amazing. Buy a raffle ticket or three or four.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact cookie committee member Lois Manigold, (231) 223-7212.

The annual Christmas Cookie Sale hosted by the Old Mission Women's Club is right around the corner.

SUPPORT YOUR INDEPENDENT LOCAL NEWSPAPER: I started Old Mission Gazette in 2015 because I felt a calling to provide the Old Mission Peninsula community with local news. After decades of writing for newspapers and magazines like the New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Family Circle and Ladies' Home Journal, I really just wanted to write about my own community where I grew up on a cherry farm and raised my own family. So I started my own newspaper.

Because Old Mission Gazette is a "Reader Supported Newspaper" -- meaning it exists because of your financial support -- I hope you'll consider tossing a few bucks our way if I mention your event, your business, your organization or your news item, or if you simply love reading about what's happening on the OMP. In a time when local news is becoming a thing of the past, supporting an independent community newspaper is more important now than ever. Thank you so much for your support! -Jane Boursaw, Editor/Publisher, Old Mission Gazette
