I haven’t posted a picture of our beautiful Mission Point Lighthouse lately, so here we go. I never get tired of hanging out at the prettiest lighthouse in Michigan (go ahead and fight me on that), walking the trails, and taking photos of the building and beach.

Next year is a very special birthday for the lighthouse, because it turns 150! Plenty of celebrations are happening, including the fact that we’ll be hosting the Michigan Lighthouse Festival in August 2020.

Lighthouse manager Ginger Schultz has been overseeing lots of improvements this year, including new wood railings on the staircases, new paint for the stairs and wall paneling, layout changes to the gift shop and museum to improve traffic flow, new flowers on the grounds, and coming up, a new fence and a kitchen makeover with new cabinets, flooring and countertops, which will honor the lighthouse’s historical legacy.

Also coming up is the construction of a replica of the small historic boathouse on the beach in front of the lighthouse. Here’s a photo of the old boathouse, date unknown, but maybe late 1800s, early 1900s…?
