Today’s installment of Old Mission History comes to us from the Solomonson Family Archives. It’s a photo of some deer hunters, which is perfect for today because we’re smack dab in the midst of deer hunting season right now.
While I know who’s pictured in the photo, I’m unsure of the date and location. I’m going to guess maybe 1940s or 1950s, based on the hunters, which are of my dad (Walter Johnson) and grandpa’s (Lester Johnson) era.

I’m hoping someone can shed more light on the photo, like where it was taken, whose truck is pictured on the right, the circumstances surrounding the photo, etc.

Terry has another picture of the same group after they got back home, and it has the same guys and four of the deer hanging where Dale Christopher used to live on Center Road. Your picture was taken at Traverse Lodge in Kenton Michigan in Houghton County. Harry Christopher was Terry’s grandfather, and Perry Christopher was Terry’s uncle.

Jane, I think you have the direction reversed for the hunting picture. I’m pretty sure Uncle Bert (Kroupa) is on the far right and my dad, Fred Dohm is third from the left.

Hi Jane, a very interesting and timely piece. Great to see all the old “famous” names in the photo. We now own the old Perry and Dale Christoper place on Center Road and
would love to see the photo of the hunters and deer hanging here on the Peninsula that Terry mentioned in the comments. Any way to get a copy of it?
