Today’s Photo of the Day is courtesy of our friendly neighborhood fox on Bluff Road. He’s so sociable that he will wander through your yard and set a spell, even if you’re working outside.
I snapped this photo a few houses to the north of us, where he wandered down the road and posed for me in front of their house. But he’s been spotted a mile to the south of us, too.

Growing up on a cherry farm on the Old Mission Peninsula, we learned early on that farmers love fox, because they eat the mice that gnaw on the trees. But you also had to keep your chickens under maximum security, because they liked those, too.
When I was a youngster working on the farm, you would often see them in the orchards. The steady engine of the tractor didn’t seem to bother them, and they’d trot along beside you while you were mowing or discing between the long rows of trees.
Thank you, Friendly Fox, for being today’s Photo of the Day.
