Old Mission Peninsula United Methodist Church is planning “A Lenten Journey,” meeting each week leading up to Easter on April 12, 2020.

Everyone is invited to join in each Wednesday at 6 p.m., beginning March 4 and continuing through April 8 at the church, located at 16426 Center Road on the Old Mission Peninsula (the church on the hill before you get to Old Mission Tavern if you’re heading north).

Old Mission Gazette is Reader Supported.

A light soup and bread supper will be served, followed by a short time of devotion on the five essential practices of Christian life: worship, study, serving, giving and sharing.

The devotionals will follow the book “The Walk” by Adam Hamilton (see it on Amazon). From Amazon:

In The Walk, Adam Hamilton focuses on five essential spiritual practices that are rooted in Jesus’ own walk with God and taught throughout the New Testament. Each of these practices is intended as part of our daily walk with Christ, while also being an essential part of growing together in the church.

In each chapter, Hamilton explores one of these practices, its New Testament foundation, and what it looks like to pursue this practice daily in our personal life and together in the life of the church. Deepen your walk with Christ as we explore the five essential practices of worship, study, serving, giving, and bearing witness to our faith.

For more information, contact the church at (231) 223-4393, and visit their website here. The church welcomes new members for service each Sunday at 10:30 a.m. (and you’ll get to hear me play my violin, too).

SUPPORT YOUR INDEPENDENT LOCAL NEWSPAPER: I started Old Mission Gazette in 2015 because I felt a calling to provide the Old Mission Peninsula community with local news. After decades of writing for newspapers and magazines like the New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Family Circle and Ladies' Home Journal, I really just wanted to write about my own community where I grew up on a cherry farm and raised my own family. So I started my own newspaper.

Because Old Mission Gazette is a "Reader Supported Newspaper" -- meaning it exists because of your financial support -- I hope you'll consider tossing a few bucks our way if I mention your event, your business, your organization or your news item, or if you simply love reading about what's happening on the OMP. In a time when local news is becoming a thing of the past, supporting an independent community newspaper is more important now than ever. Thank you so much for your support! -Jane Boursaw, Editor/Publisher, Old Mission Gazette
