A note from Peninsula Township Clerk Becky Chown…

Although the Peninsula Township offices are officially closed to the public at this time due to the coronavirus pandemic, we want you to know that staff are working remotely and that all services and functions continue.

Old Mission Gazette is Reader Supported.

The compactor station/recycling center on Devil’s Dive Road is open for business, and American Waste also continues to do curbside pickup.

Individuals who need specific services – such as a document notarized, to apply for a permit, to ask a question about taxes, to correct an address, or any other normal function – can email the staff person they need via the staff directory on the Peninsula Township website here.

If anyone in the township knows of any residents who do not have internet access, please let them know that township services continue and that they can reach out to Township Supervisor Rob Manigold for assistance at any time. His cell phone number is (231) 409-0862.

Parks Are Open – Remember Social Distancing

In addition, all our township parks and natural areas remain open. We hope you will have a chance to enjoy them in the coming days and weeks, albeit from a safe distance from one another.

Also, please be aware that the hand sanitizer and toilet paper have disappeared, so bring your own!

Got Hand Sanitizer? Call the Fire Department

The township extends a heartfelt thank you to Sam’s Club for donating much-needed wipes to our community police officer and fire department. We also want to put out a call for hand sanitizer, as the fire department is running low.

If you have any hand sanitizer that you can donate, please contact Fire Chief Fred Gilstorff at (231) 223-4443 or (231) 463-0330, or email [email protected].

Due to Covid-19 concerns, the Peninsula Township Fire Department buildings are closed to the public except in the event of an emergency. If you need to do business with the fire department, do it by phone, if at all possible. Be assured that the fire department is still here for the community and will respond to ALL calls for emergencies. Stay up to date on Covid-19 issues on their Facebook page.

SUPPORT YOUR INDEPENDENT LOCAL NEWSPAPER: I started Old Mission Gazette in 2015 because I felt a calling to provide the Old Mission Peninsula community with local news. After decades of writing for newspapers and magazines like the New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Family Circle and Ladies' Home Journal, I really just wanted to write about my own community where I grew up on a cherry farm and raised my own family. So I started my own newspaper.

Because Old Mission Gazette is a "Reader Supported Newspaper" -- meaning it exists because of your financial support -- I hope you'll consider tossing a few bucks our way if I mention your event, your business, your organization or your news item, or if you simply love reading about what's happening on the OMP. In a time when local news is becoming a thing of the past, supporting an independent community newspaper is more important now than ever. Thank you so much for your support! -Jane Boursaw, Editor/Publisher, Old Mission Gazette
