Ready for some farm-fresh produce from a local Old Mission Peninsula farm? Me, too! Local Yokels Farm Stand is opening for the season today, and I can’t wait to start stopping by there for those super-fresh veggies, fruits, plants and other farm items.

They are open daily from 9 a.m. – 8 p.m. at 13130 Center Road (the old Dohm farm near the Township Hall, for longtime OMPers).

Old Mission Gazette is Reader Supported.

I especially can’t wait for those strawberries – read more about the luscious fruit – and Local Yokels background and mission – here. Ninety-eight percent of their plants are grown by owners Ben and Jen Bramer right here on the OMP. It doesn’t get more local than that.

Today’s offerings include:

  • Arugula – $5/bag
  • Baby Lettuce Mix – $5/bag
  • Spinach- $5/bag
  • Radishes – $3/bunch
  • Fresh Basil – $5/pint
  • Transplants – $6 each (Tomato, Rosemary, French Tarragon, Thyme and Spearmint)

For the safety of yourself and others – and because of the small space in the farm stand – they ask that you adhere to social distancing guidelines and keep a minimum distance of six feet between you and other customers. Two people are allowed in the stand at one time.

The farm stand is self serve and not staffed, so plan to bring exact change or your own pen if you’re writing a check.

Visit their website here, and on Instagram and Facebook. They are great about posting updates on their social media accounts.

If you have any questions, call them at (231) 223-7900, or email [email protected].

SUPPORT YOUR INDEPENDENT LOCAL NEWSPAPER: I started Old Mission Gazette in 2015 because I felt a calling to provide the Old Mission Peninsula community with local news. After decades of writing for newspapers and magazines like the New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Family Circle and Ladies' Home Journal, I really just wanted to write about my own community where I grew up on a cherry farm and raised my own family. So I started my own newspaper.

Because Old Mission Gazette is a "Reader Supported Newspaper" -- meaning it exists because of your financial support -- I hope you'll consider tossing a few bucks our way if I mention your event, your business, your organization or your news item, or if you simply love reading about what's happening on the OMP. In a time when local news is becoming a thing of the past, supporting an independent community newspaper is more important now than ever. Thank you so much for your support! -Jane Boursaw, Editor/Publisher, Old Mission Gazette

  1. I stopped by yesterday and bought some lovely radishes, baby spinach and mixed salad greens. All were delicious! So glad to have Local Yokels just down the road!
