Most of us remember the tale of the tortoise and the hare from Aesop’s Fables. It is the story of a race between unequal partners, the slower of whom wins because he works constantly and with determination.
As we work toward a phased re-opening of the library, the Board and Staff of Peninsula Community Library want you to know that we have your safety and good health at the forefront of our plans.

Beginning this Monday, June 8, we will begin by inviting those staff members who are ready to return to PCL in order to prepare to phase in the services that mean so much to us all.
On Monday, we will unlock the outdoor drop box to begin the return of the thousands of items that have been floating around out there since mid-March. Please do not all rush up at once! All your items have been automatically renewed through July.
If you have larger items, games and puzzles and kits, please hang on to them a bit longer until we can open our doors. No overdue fines will accrue.
Per guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control, all returned items will be quarantined 72 hours before being checked in and returned to the shelves. As research develops, procedures will be adjusted as necessary, and staff handling materials will follow strict safety procedures, including the wearing of masks, gloves, shields and sanitization.
On June 15, we will begin curbside service for the pickup of holds. I will share more with you soon on how this will work. Please know that each library in the district is doing this just a little bit differently. Be sure to check websites for variations in hours and procedures.
Most importantly, we want to assure you that we are diligently setting up safe ways for you to return to the library per the protocols of the Grand Traverse County Health Department and the State of Michigan. Stay tuned for updates. Our services may look different for a bit, but we are here for you!
We are so excited to be on the road to recovery! Together we shall win the race against Covid-19. We are so happy to take these first few steps! Stay safe!
