Worried about where your onions are coming from these days? I think we should all be worried about where all our food is coming from, not just these days, but all days, past, present and future.
We all know that buying locally-grown fresh produce from our farm stands here on the Old Mission Peninsula is always the best option, and we’re in luck when it comes to onions.
Old Mission Gazette is Reader Supported.

Local Yokels Farm Stand – I’ve previously fawned over their strawberries, asparagus and other produce – has big bunches of all kinds of onions, including white, red, green onions and probably some others I’m forgetting.
We put onions in pretty much everything and brought home some of their white onions today, along with some cucumbers.
Also, onions are very good for us. They help to lower blood pressure and cholesterol, protect against many forms of cancer, and contain antioxidants and anti-inflammatory compounds, all of which are good for a variety of reasons.
Also at Local Yokels Farm Stand today were tomatoes, hot peppers, herbs, summer squash and lots more. I keep hoping to find raspberries, but they’re always sold out by the time I get myself over there.
Local Yokels is located at 13130 Center Road, on the right before you get to the Peninsula Township Hall if you’re headed north. If you have any questions, feel free to call them, (231) 223-7900, or visit their website here.
SUPPORT YOUR INDEPENDENT LOCAL NEWSPAPER: I started Old Mission Gazette in 2015 because I felt a calling to provide the Old Mission Peninsula community with local news. After decades of writing for newspapers and magazines like the New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Family Circle and Ladies' Home Journal, I really just wanted to write about my own community where I grew up on a cherry farm and raised my own family. So I started my own newspaper.
Because Old Mission Gazette is a "Reader Supported Newspaper" -- meaning it exists because of your financial support -- I hope you'll consider tossing a few bucks our way if I mention your event, your business, your organization or your news item, or if you simply love reading about what's happening on the OMP. In a time when local news is becoming a thing of the past, supporting an independent community newspaper is more important now than ever. Thank you so much for your support! -Jane Boursaw, Editor/Publisher, Old Mission Gazette

[…] for this recipe, I would suggest using these amazing onions from Local Yokels Farm Stand, along with either their potatoes or the potatoes from Warren Orchards […]
