Beginning Wednesday, Nov. 18, Peninsula Community Library will return to curbside service along with the Traverse Area District Library, Interlochen Public Library and Fife Lake Public Library. Due to the surge in Covid-19 cases in our region, in-person services are suspended until further notice.

We will offer curbside pick-up, keep our book returns open, offer emergency computer use by appointment, and continue programming via Zoom. Print and fax orders may be sent via email and picked up curbside. Call first, (231) 223-7700.

For curbside, holds may be placed online at PCL’s website or by calling the library at (231) 223-7700. Not sure what titles you want? We can do bundles in your favorite genre. When you receive notice that your holds are in, come to the library, call us from the parking lot, pop your trunk but remain in your car. We will place your items and shut your trunk.

Editor’s Note: PCL staffer Penny Campo-Pierce demonstrates curbside pickup earlier this year (when it was warm and the sun was out and convertibles were acceptable transportation).

Games and our new STEM KITS are available to reserve. Craft bags will continue via curbside. Call to reserve a bag or ask when you drive in.

Puzzles will be available on the front porch as before, BUT we ask that you return them rubber banded in the separate porch box marked GAME, KIT AND PUZZLE RETURNS, as we quarantine all returned items for four days before making them available again.

Both of the Little Free Libraries are open – returns, if you so choose, may be made via the outdoor return box. Adult items are out front and kids’ items are in the Children’s Garden.

Notary service is temporarily suspended.

Temporary Hours:

  • Monday and Thursday, 10-6
  • Tuesday, Wednesday & Friday, 10-4
  • Saturday, 10-1

Please stay safe! You are our friends and neighbors and family! We will get through this together. Love and hugs from all of us at PCL!

SUPPORT YOUR INDEPENDENT LOCAL NEWSPAPER: I started Old Mission Gazette in 2015 because I felt a calling to provide the Old Mission Peninsula community with local news. After decades of writing for newspapers and magazines like the New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Family Circle and Ladies' Home Journal, I really just wanted to write about my own community where I grew up on a cherry farm and raised my own family. So I started my own newspaper.

Because Old Mission Gazette is a "Reader Supported Newspaper" -- meaning it exists because of your financial support -- I hope you'll consider tossing a few bucks our way if I mention your event, your business, your organization or your news item, or if you simply love reading about what's happening on the OMP. In a time when local news is becoming a thing of the past, supporting an independent community newspaper is more important now than ever. Thank you so much for your support! -Jane Boursaw, Editor/Publisher, Old Mission Gazette
