Looking for a fresh-cut Christmas tree right here on the Old Mission Peninsula? Barb and Don Switzer have trees of all sizes, spruce or balsam fir, ready for cutting right now, fresh from the field.
The trees are $5 per foot, and you can select your own tree. Don will cut it with his trusty chainsaw and haul it back to your car in a little sled. A few photos from when we got our sweet little tree there last December.

Their farm, with the fun name of Switz.R.Land Evergreen Tree Farm, was established in 1995 and is located at 19362 Center Road, between Swaney and Tompkins Road as you’re heading out towards the lighthouse.
If you’re driving north on Center Road, go past the Old Mission Tavern, past Old Mission Road, and past Swaney Road, and you’ll see their farm on the right before you get to Tompkins Road.
In fact, it’s directly north of the new Peninsula Township Fire Station 3, so you can check out the construction progress while you’re there. Fire Chief Fred Gilstorff says they anticipate starting to move equipment in by mid-January.
If you’re heading out to get a tree, it’s best to call first and make sure the Switzers are around. Call Don at (269) 491-0529.
SUPPORT YOUR INDEPENDENT LOCAL NEWSPAPER: I started Old Mission Gazette in 2015 because I felt a calling to provide the Old Mission Peninsula community with local news. After decades of writing for newspapers and magazines like the New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Family Circle and Ladies' Home Journal, I really just wanted to write about my own community where I grew up on a cherry farm and raised my own family. So I started my own newspaper.
Because Old Mission Gazette is a "Reader Supported Newspaper" -- meaning it exists because of your financial support -- I hope you'll consider tossing a few bucks our way if I mention your event, your business, your organization or your news item, or if you simply love reading about what's happening on the OMP. In a time when local news is becoming a thing of the past, supporting an independent community newspaper is more important now than ever. Thank you so much for your support! -Jane Boursaw, Editor/Publisher, Old Mission Gazette
