We’re keeping an eye on several fox dens around the Old Mission Peninsula, and spotted this little guy on the north end of Smokey Hollow Road yesterday.
The mom or dad of this guy might be the one terrorizing the chicken coops of folks in the neighborhood – not good! But on the other hand, the farmers love them because they eat the mice in the orchards. So depending on your situation, you either love the fox or don’t love them so much.

It’s always a thrill for this photographer to see a little furry head poking out of the fox dens around the OMP. When I worked on the farm in my younger years, it was fun to see them in the orchards, trotting along beside the tractor. As long as the noise was a consistent steady hum of the tractor going down the rows of trees, they didn’t seem too concerned about sharing the space with me.
Nothing will ever compare with this photo I took several years ago in Old Mission featuring a bunch of pups, but my camera equipment wasn’t as good back then, so I have fewer options about enlarging that particular photo for wall art for the store. You need a really high resolution to blow up the photos.
But I’ll see how these pics from yesterday do with a bigger wrapped canvas. I’ll keep you posted on that.
